Accrual Details
The Financial Services Department continues to strive towards accurate, timely Financial Reporting. In order to achieve this goal, Financial Services is posting a “Quarter 1” Payroll Accrual to accurately capture the payroll expense in the month that it was incurred.
Financial Services is using 6/14ths of Payroll 2023-008 distribution as an accrual amount (days Sep. 25 – Sep. 30). Our office will be booking the expense in September, Fiscal Period 3 and reversing the Accrual in October, Fiscal Period 4.
The accrual will allow campus departments to calculate total payroll expenditures for the fiscal year.
Please Note: Payroll for these last 6 days of September (or 6/14ths of 2023-008) was not booked until approximately October 14. After consultation with several UMBC Business Managers/Stakeholders, it was decided that we would use the 6/14ths of 2023-08 to book the FY23 1st Quarter Payroll Accrual, dated 9/30 and Reversal dated 10/01. This means if you ran September reports before October 15 (REX Updated Date) , those September departmental balances will be affected by the Payroll Accrual and may need to be run again.
Fund Information:
Unrestricted Funds: 1111, 1112, 1113, 1116 will be accrued and reversed.
Restricted Funds 1114, 1115, 1253 ** WILL NOT ** be accrued at the Grant ID level, so it should not affect any Grant Summary or Grant Detail Reports. (This is UMBC’s traditional Accrual on these Funds.)

The Budget Column on the REX Budget to Actuals Report will be updated to reflect the amounts for State Fringes.
